Abre can integrate with a student information system via four different methods.
1. Abre Automated SIS Integration
Abre automates the secure transfer of staff and student data between your Student Information System (SIS) and Abre via a number of required, recommended, and optional files via SFTP transfer to a secure site.
Abre Automated SIS Integration allows your district to automate the way you share staff and student data with Abre. You can share the file(s) daily, weekly, or as needed. When you share and update staff and student data this way, educators will see updates inside Abre within 1 business day.
The file(s) being shared must contain all information you would like to share with Abre with each upload. If information is missing from the upload, Abre will reflect this change and remove memberships or objects until that information is shared again in the following file upload. Any updates to existing staff and student information will be added to the existing data being transmitted.
If you are ready to get started with Abre’s Automated SIS Integration, please follow the directions below to prepare and share your roster information:
1) Reach out to Abre Support to confirm you would like to set up and update staff and student information using Abre Automated SIS Integration. Abre Customer Support will prepare to receive your district's txt file(s) via our SFTP and share the SFTP host address and credentials with your team.
2) Prepare and export your initial txt file(s). Click HERE for more information about configuring your files.
Tips on Building the Files
Abre requires six files for basic integration and recommends additional files for more comprehensive data visualizations. File format, including column headers, order, and file names must match the format provided in Abre's Data Integration Documentation.
File Format | All .txt files should be tab delimited |
File Names | File names need to match exactly |
Frequency | Nightly (Ideally between 9:00 pm and 12:00 am) |
Required | Any field that is marked with an asterisks (*) is considered a required field |
Headers | The first row of every file loaded into Abre should be a header containing the name of the data contained within the respective column. If you choose not to send data for a non-required field, the corresponding header column is still required. |
3) The Customer Support team will review your data and contact you if we have any questions before syncing the data.
4) The Customer Support team will reach out when your data is ready to review in Abre. Please notify all implementation stakeholders to review and validate the staff and student information.
5) If the rosters need no additional adjustments, Customer Support will inform the Abre implementation team that the SIS data has been synced and scheduled next steps.
2. Global Grid for Learning (GG4L)
GG4L is a FERPA-compliant roster provisioning and student dashboard system much like ClassLink or Clever.
For basic staff and student information, districts may leverage GG4L’s School Passport, a secure data exchange platform. Districts easily connect their student information system to GG4L or upload data via csv files. GG4L shares that data with Abre through an API.
To get started, please complete the GG4L Onboarding Form and the GG4L Customer Care Team will help set up data sharing properly, including filtering.
After sharing is set up by the district, the Abre Customer Support team will complete the setup for access in Abre and work with the district IT team to share supplemental staff and student data via automated file transfer to our SFTP site.
3. ClassLink Integration
ClassLink is a FERPA-compliant roster provisioning and Single Sign-On provider.
For basic staff and student information, districts may leverage ClassLink OneRoster, a secure data exchange platform. Districts easily connect their student information system to ClassLink or upload data via csv files. ClassLink shares that data with Abre through an API.
To get started with ClassLink, please add Abre as an app and set up any sharing rules and email support@abre.com to let Abre know you have added Abre.
After sharing is set up by the district, the Abre Customer Support team will complete the setup for access in Abre and work with the district IT team to share supplemental staff and student data via automated file transfer to our SFTP site.
4. OneRoster SFTP Zip
Recommended for districts who are experienced with automating a OneRoster ZIP file to an Abre remote SFTP drop location.
Please reach out to support@abre.com when you are ready to drop OneRoster ZIP files.
5. OneRoster 1.1 API
Recommended for districts and schools that use a SIS that supports native OneRoster 1.1 API Integration and OAuth2.0.
Please place the following credentials on your SFTP and notify support@abre.com or email support@abre.com with an expiring link:
- baseURL
- authURL
- clientID
- clientSecret
If you are using OneRoster API, we will need supplemental files through SIS integration.
