Summary
Abre securely transfers staff and student data between your Student Information System (SIS) and Abre using SFTP. This process utilizes required and optional files, with additional optional files recommended based on district needs. District teams must configure files in their SIS to match Abre’s templates and automate nightly transfers via SFTP.
What this Integration Does
The Automated SIS Integration streamlines data sharing, allowing districts to upload files daily, weekly, or as needed. We recommend scheduling file transfers before 12:00 AM EST to ensure inclusion in nightly syncs.
The file(s) being shared must contain all information you would like to share with Abre with each upload. If information is missing from the upload, Abre will reflect this change and remove data until that information is shared again in a following file upload.
Prerequisites
- Abre Permissions: Data Monitoring Center Administrator or System Administrator access in Abre.
- SIS Permissions: Administrator-level permissions in your Student Information System.
- Abre SFTP Credentials: Please reach out to your Customer Success Manager or support@abre.com to get credentials.

Step-by-Step Instructions
1. Initiate Integration Setup
Contact Abre Support to begin setting up Automated SIS Integration for staff and student data. Our team will prepare to receive your district’s files via SFTP and provide you with the necessary host address and credentials if needed. Review Abre templates and required fields in the Data Integration Guide.
2. Prepare and Export Files
Prepare and export the required .txt
or .csv
files from your SIS. The initial implementation with Abre requires six mandatory files, with additional optional files available based on district needs.
- Ensure automated extracts match Abre’s templates exactly.
- Optional fields may be left blank, but column positions must be maintained.
- Blank rows are permitted, but headers are required. Header names do not need to precisely match field names, however file names must match exactly.
3. SIS-Specific Guidance
For some Student Information Systems, we have guidance below:
- Aeries: Utilize the guide to begin basic integration or you can reach out to the Aeries team to prepare files for you (they do charge for this service).
- Skyward (SMS): Follow the guide for setting up your data extraction.
- ProgressBook: Contact your ITC for a data extract request form and assistance with file creation.
- Alma: Contact Alma Support, inform them of your Abre partnership, and request basic file transfers to Abre.
- JCampus: Contact JCampus Support to configure exports to Abre.
- If you use a Student Information System that is not listed above and need additional guidance on preparing data extracts into our templates that are automated to the SFTP, please let us know at support@abre.com.
4. Notify Abre of Data Files Being Ready for Review
- Our Customer Support team will review your data and contact you if additional information or edits are needed.
- Once the data is ready in Abre, you will be notified.

If your SIS is not listed, it may indicate no prior integration with that system. However, integration may still be possible. Please contact support@abre.com to confirm compatibility.
