The People App serves as a comprehensive directory for all the stakeholders who use Abre in a district. It can be synced with a school’s SIS and allows schools to import staff members.
The People App is a free app as it is required in all Abre instances.
Why Use the People App
Every organization requires a directory of people. At its basic level, the People App serves as that directory. Ideally, the People App will feature:
- All staff (NOT just staff in the SIS)
- All students
- All family members
- All partners
- Alumni (future role - not “live” yet, although a partner could be an alumni)
Stakeholders can search the directory for anyone connected to the school district. This is actually a bit of a pain point for schools as these “lists” exist in a multitude of areas and locations
The People App also serves the important functions of:
- Controlling permissions
- Hosting portfolios and profiles
- Hosting HR data
Can the People App Replace HR Platforms and Systems?
No. Think of the People App as an addon to HR systems. Similar to how we are not a SIS, we can hide most of the advanced features of an HR system and create functional use cases for the majority of stakeholders.
Where do the “People” in the People App Come from?
Good question! We draw people into the app via 3 methods:
- A sync with the student information system
- Manual upload of a spreadsheet
- Manual creation of users
We typically get ~70% of the staff with a SIS sync. The rest need to be manually added.
⚠️ IMPORTANT
You want all your staff in Abre. As part of the onboarding experience, CX works with customers to make sure they get all the staff. That said, a school MUST monitor and archive manually added staff if they want to keep an active directory.
People Features: Profiles, Portfolios, Media, and Administration
When you click on a person, four tabs can appear depending on what a district decides to turn on. They are:
- Profiles
- Portfolios
- Media
- Administration
An example of Zach with 4 Tabs turned on.
Profiles (All Stakeholders)
Profiles are forms that explain a particular profile of the stakeholder. The district can set up an unlimited number of profiles. Some common examples are:
- Professional Interests
- Learner Profile
- Etc
Profiles are viewable via the People App AND the Student360.
Portfolios (All Stakeholders)
Portfolios are collections of artifacts that can be shared with Abre users.
Media (All Stakeholders)
Technically this is only video and flipgrid media. But you can add a YouTube video as a media element. This is sometimes used by schools at the start of the school year. Especially to have students do a brief intro of themselves
Administration (Abre Super Admins)
This tab features important administration options and is only available to super admins or people admins.
