Term codes are essential identifiers in school Student Information Systems (SIS) that represent specific academic periods such as a semester, quarter, trimester, etc.
Why Do We Need to Set Term Codes?
Your district term codes need to align with Abre’s standard codes OR custom term codes will need to be recorded to avoid editing your integrated files. Setting this up will ensure student schedules, grades, and assignments are properly displayed. This should be completed at the beginning of every school year. Below you will find the process of setting up custom term codes in Abre.
Understanding Term Codes
Term codes must exactly match the values in your Student Information System (SIS) export files for proper data integration. It is important to note that term codes are case sensitive. While Abre provides standard term codes, you can define custom codes to match your district's specific needs.
Standard Term Codes in Abre
Abre's standard term codes include:
- Semesters: Sem1, Sem2
- Quarters: Q1, Q2, Q3, Q4
- Trimesters: Tri1, Tri2, Tri3
- Year: Year
Term Codes that Match
There is no need to add Term Codes in Abre for those that match our standard codes. Simply complete the School Calendar academic terms for any terms that use Abre’s specific Term Codes
Example
Your district utilizes semesters and the Term Codes in your SIS files for semesters are Sem1 and Sem2. These match Abre’s standard Term Codes. Set the School Calendar in Abre with your academic dates.

How To Set Custom Term Codes
- Click Settings in the app drawer
- Click the Calendar tab
- If your district uses Term Codes that differ from Abre’s standard ones, click the “Add District Defined Terms” button
- Fill in a recognizable Term Name. This is just for your own reference and understanding.
- Enter the Term Code. It is important that the Term Code field matches exactly what appears in your SIS files
- Set the Start and End dates of the term
Example
Your district utilizes semesters and the Term Codes in your SIS files for semesters are S1 and S2. These do not match Abre’s standard Term Codes. Leave the School Calendar academic terms blank and add the district defined terms following the steps above.
